Kalyn Ponga steps up again for the Knights, this time to set up fellow playmaker Mitchell Pearce.
It pulls Newcastle back level with the Titans, and throws another spanner in the works for the formation of the top-eight.
"As soon as he gets involved there's drama for the defence," Paul Vautin said of Ponga's assist.
"A sublime pass to Mitchell Pearce."
Prior to the try, the Titans were sitting in eighth on the NRL live ladder, but that'll now be undone as the Knights strengthen their grip on seventh spot.
A late David Fifita try gives the Titans a six-point buffer heading into half-time.
All still on the line here. Titans lead 12-6.
Kalyn Ponga says 'give me the ball' and gets the Knights right back in the contest.
Swooping across the line from the opposite side of the field, the fullback received the ball on the burst from his dummy half.
Bamboozling the Titans' line, he sold his defenders with a monster dummy before stepping through to dot down.
"Every time he gets the ball there is danger, he's come from the other side, he's thrown the dummy and they've all fallen over," league legend Paul Vautin said in commentary.
Nine caller Peter Psaltis added: "Kalyn Ponga, showing his class tonight."
The Gold Coast Titans need to win tonight against the Knights, and they've made their intentions clear from the outset.
Phillip Sami has scored upon his return from injury within the opening five minutes of play to leave the Knights stunned after they dominated the opening possessions.
Sami had some strong running from Beau Fermor to thank, who made something from nothing when he broke the Knights line sitting flat with not much going.
"You beauty, he just beat him heads up," Queensland legend Cam Smith said in commentary.
Nine commentator Mat Thompson added: "It's a game they just have to win."
The Knights will be without Daniel Saifiti and David Klemmer for tonight's clash against the Titans, leading Newcastle great Andrew Johns to be wary.
"I'm going to tip the Knights, but this is a real danger game," Johns said in Wide World of Sports' weekly tips segment.
"The last couple of years when they've been in contention for the eight, the last couple of rounds they've really struggled."
NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler was tipping the Titans to get the biccies over the Knights.
"Big misses, a couple of big men [out for Newcastle]," Brad Fittler added.
"The one thing the Gold Coast has got is a lot of big fellas off their bench - Fotuaika, obviously Fifita and then you've got Tino and Wallace.
"I'm thinking it'll be an upset here. They beat them earlier in the year and I just feel like the Knights aren't going that well."
