My First Ghorepani Poonhill Trek: A Journey to Remember

My First Ghorepani Poonhill Trek: A Journey to Remember

Last month, I finally did something I’d been dreaming about for years: the Ghorepani Poonhill Trek. I’d heard so much about the stunning sunrise views and friendly villages, but nothing could’ve prepared me for how amazing it was. Let me tell you all about it!

The trek starts in a cute little town called Nayapul, just a short drive from Pokhara. The first day was easy. I walked through forests, crossing tiny bridges, and saying “Namaste” to locals. After a few hours, I reached Tikhedhunga, where I stayed the night. The guesthouse was simple but cozy, and the dal bhat (a traditional Nepali meal) was delicious!

The next day was a bit tougher. I climbed up to Ghorepani, which is about 2,874 meters high. Yes, my legs were tired, but the views kept me going. The trail was lined with rhododendron trees, and I even saw some monkeys swinging around.

Fun fact:

Rhododendrons are Nepal’s national flower, and they bloom in bright red and pink colors in spring!

Reaching Ghorepani felt like a big win. The village was small but full of life. Kids were playing, and the air was fresh and cool. I spent the evening sipping tea and chatting with other trekkers. Everyone was so friendly, and I felt like I was part of a little adventure community.

The highlight of the trek was the early morning hike to Poonhill. I woke up at 4:30 AM (yes, it was hard, but totally worth it!). The trail was dark, but the stars were so bright. When I reached Poonhill, I was speechless. The sunrise lit up the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains, and it felt like I was on top of the world. According to stats, over 30,000 people visit Poonhill every year, and now I know why!

After soaking in the view, I headed back to Ghorepani for breakfast. Then, it was time to start the journey down. The return trip was easier, and I even stopped at a waterfall to take some photos.

The Ghorepani Poonhill Trek was my first big adventure, and it was everything I hoped for—and more. It’s perfect for beginners like me, and the memories will stay with me forever. If you’re thinking about doing it, go for it! You won’t regret it.

Can’t wait to plan my next trek. Nepal, you’ve stolen my heart! ????
