A key decision was made regarding another road name in Vijayawada. The Andhra Pradesh government issued orders to retain the name of the previously existing Mahanadu Road in the city as it is. It is well-known that during the tenure of the previous YSRCP government, local TDP leader Devineni Avinash played a major role in changing the name of Mahanadu Road to Devineni Rajasekhar Road. Following this, there were large-scale petitions from locals to the government requesting that the name of the road remain Mahanadu.
Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao, along with the requests from the locals, wrote a letter to the Municipal Commissioner, explaining the history of the road. Immediately responding to this letter, the Municipal Commissioner reviewed the records and presented a detailed report to the state government. Due to the controversial nature of the council resolution, the Andhra Pradesh government issued orders canceling the resolution. In this regard, Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar issued a Government Order (GO) under Section 679A of the Andhra Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1995.
